About the CT Bike Ped Plan Update
The Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan and Map Update process will evaluate the state’s goals and policies, overall needs, and ideas for bicycle and pedestrian improvements in the state. The process is expected to last about 18 months and will include a variety of public and agency involvement efforts as well as additional efforts that are new to bicycle and pedestrian planning in Connecticut. These efforts will include:
- Research on the most up to date planning documents and resources that include relevant bicycle and pedestrian information
- Data collection of current biking and pedestrian trends
- Review of the existing State Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan to identify Action Strategies that have been realized since 2009
- Development of updated Action Strategies and Implementation Options
The project will also result in an updated Statewide Bicycle Map that will include existing bicycle amenities, regional trail networks, and suggested on-street bicycle routes. In addition, it will include an assessment of streets’ suitability for bicycling based on information such as the posted speed limit and truck traffic volumes. This interactive map will be accessible and optimized for both desktop and mobile viewing.
